Liam Jones (15) had a fantastic meet, gaining a PB in every event plus qualifying for his first Senior Regional Final; competing alongside Great Britain Olympian Marco Louchran from Guildford in the 50m Backstroke. His efforts resulted in him wining the Junior Bronze; Liam’s first regional medal. Liam also smashed his 200m Backstroke and Freestyle PBs; both by some 4-5 seconds. Fiona Shaw also made significant improvements; knocking a second off her 50m Free PB; which qualified her for the Senior Regional Final.
Natasha Garry, Christopher Harbour, George Longhurst, Mitch Green and Connor Lewis all made considerable improvements in their 200m events; whilst Imogen Shepard and Izzy Baxter made further improvements in their 800m event. Daniel Manners competed in the distance events producing some good swims; namely a 21 second PB on his 1500 Free!
Ethan Carter also took a full second of his 50m Freestyle; whilst other swimmers were also successful in there events: Well Done to Josh Howard, Sarah Collin, Bethany Hirst’, Lauren Jones, Josh Lewis, Luke Thomas & Francine Kidd.

Liam and Fiona lead Wycombe to some Promising Swims
The weekend saw 18 Wycombe District swimmers compete at the South East Regional Short Course Championships, held at the Aldershot Army Garrison Pool. The team used this meet as preparation for their target meet in two weeks time in Bournemouth. With that in mind; the swimmers were going into this meet un-rested and pretty tired! Being tired didn’t stop the majority of swimmers from having some outstanding swims, resulting in some Personal Best times being smashed.Liam Jones (15) had a fantastic meet, gaining a PB in every event plus qualifying for his first Senior Regional Final; competing alongside Great Britain Olympian Marco Louchran from Guildford in the 50m Backstroke. 02/12/12 - WDSC XMAS LIGHTS EVENING 7th December 2012
You are cordially invited to drinks at the Shepherd Family House (Jancis - WDSC Welfare Office and Tony) to see the Christmas Charity Lights.
Tony has carefully planned this lighting extravaganza over the last few months and the display runs a variety of light shows throughout the evening.
Please feel free to call by their house and drop in for a drink and see the fantastic lights.
A map to their house can be found here HERE.
Jancis and Tony would like to extend this invite to all members of Wycombe District Swimming Club and look forward to seeing you from 7pm on the 7th December 2012.
The best times to see the lights are when they ‘dance’ there are 4 different songs alternating every 15 minutes, 00, 15, 30 and 45 mins past the hour between 17.00-21.00hrs
Jancis and Tony nominate a charity annually to support local causes, this year they have decided to support brainstrust as one of our swimmers parents is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour.
See the Braintrust website for more infromation.
Brainstrust is the brain tumour charity that offers a unique support service to people who are coping with a brain tumour.
They provide support and advice from the point of diagnosis. This can be offered because of their experience battling brain cancer, our unique network of advisors, and our supporters in the medical, scientific and nursing community.
They are ‘not just a phoneline’. Instead, they offer a range of personal support services that embrace the ways that brain tumour patients and carers want to communicate, and that are accessible when these people need to use them via 24/7 phone and email support, face to face ‘Meet Ups’, printed information and support tools, as well as an online community and 2 websites that each meet a very specific, predetermined set of needs: www.brainstrust.org.uk and www.braintumourhub.org.uk.

02/12/12 - Revised Fee Structure
Dear Members,
Following the introduction of the new squads for the Club, we have published the revised fees that relate to those squads on the website. These fees will apply from 1st January 2013.
Please visit : http://www.wycombe-swimming.org.uk/club-fees_new.html
We have included an modest inflationary increase for all squads and rounded the quarterly charges to the nearest pound for convenience. The quarterly fees exclude the annual WDSC and ASA (Regional and National) subscriptions and these are also shown on the website.
Obviously our costs are not fixed and the largest elements of expenditure, salaries and pool hire in particular, have increased and are likely to continue to increase.
The vast majority of squads change name, but have the same pool time available; therefore those squads see only an inflationary increase. Swimmers in P2 moving to Senior Performance and Junior Performance will see larger increases in fees due to the increase in available pool time. Those joining Senior Competitive will have lower fee and for those swimmers moving in to Junior Fastrack fees will increase from P1, due to a significant increase in available training hours.
The committee have endeavoured to keep costs low and feel that the increase in fees is justified and reasonable. If the increase in fees does cause anyone any particular concern or they wish to discuss them then please contact either the Secretary, Simon Shaw (secretary@wycombe-swimming.org.uk), or our Treasurer, Lawrence Summers (treasurer@wycombe-swimming.org.uk).
For those that wish to pay by standing order we have identified the consolidated monthly charge that is applicable to each squad and also displayed that on our web-site on the fees page.
Kind Regards
Chris Ross

28/11/12 - Success in Kelkheim
Congratulations to all the swimmers who visited Kelkhiem this year.
The final total of the teams medals was 118
54 gold ,33 silver and 31 bronze with several personal best times swam.
As well as the medals , the ladies relay teams were 1st and 3rd in their event and the club took second in the 12x50m medley relay and two swimmers in the event finals.

A special thanks to our parent organisers - Jon, Tom, Helen and Helen! Without your leadership to organise this event, it couldn't happen. Thank You for helping us maintain our links with Kelkheim and all of their swimmers.

04/11/12 - Club Champs - we need your help please!
Dear Parents / Swimmers,
Our Annual Club Champs are now only 2 weeks away!!
Hopefully you have already submitted your entries, now the next important request to you.
As you probably know by now, we rely on volunteers to run our events. Club Champs is unique in that it is just for the benefit of our swimmers - offering opportunities for all age groups and as a licensed meet swimmers can get official times. This does mean that volunteers for all roles, including officials need to come from our club.
Please volunteer! Dont worry if you havent done this before - it is a great opportunity to learn, it is appreciated and of course you still see your swimmer compete.
If you are able to volunteer, please email Angela Currie at Currie474@btinternet.com or sign-up on the duties sheet on the Notice Board at the pool
If you are able to help as an official please email Sharon Longhurst at officials@wycombe-swimming.org.uk
Also - we want to re-introduce the opportunity for parents/businesses to sponsor a race or the programme. Minimum sponsor fee is £20. You can name the race whatever you want (within reason) and have an announcement e.g. birthday greetings etc. Please contact Richard Lundie-Sadd at openmeets@wycombe-swimming.org.uk if you would like to sponsor a race.
Thank you
Looking forward to a great WDSC event!

13/10/12 - Volunteer Helpers for B/C Meet - Briefing
There will be a short briefing for Volunteers at the B/C Meet on the 20/21 October - Please join Richard Lundie-Sadd (Meet Coordinator) at 18:30 on the Balcony (Deep End) for a short pre-meet briefing. This will only last 10-15 mins, and all volunteers are asked to attend, if possible.
Thanks to everyone who has volunteered so far. We still URGENTLY NEED more volunteers to help out at the meet. We cannot run the meet without your help, so if you can spare a couple of hours over the weekend, please come along to the meeting and see how you may be able to help at the Open Meet.
Our Open Meet events are a critical fund raising source for OUR CLUB, and the income generated supplements members fees. Without these meets, the cost of swimming at the club would dramatically increase.
If you are not sure what jobs need doing, or what a specific role entails, come along and find out. The more volunteers we can get, the easier the task of running the meet will be. See you on Tuesday!

Dear Parents / Members,
I hope all of you with swimmers eligible for the B/C Open meet have now returned your entries to the coaches.

Please note that the volunteer sign-up sheets are up on the notice board at Handy Cross ready for you to add your name to help. As a reminder we rely entirely on parents to support the running of the galas and it is the success of the galas which helps our fee structure as well as being great fun for our swimmers and promoting the success of our club.
Our work force co-ordinator Angela Currie will be very happy to meet you on Tuesday evenings at the pool to explain what is involved - it is easy and and its a great way of getting to know people and supporting your club.
Please dont be shy - full instruction provided :)
Kind regards,
Heather

24/08/12 - Morgyn Peters selected for Team GB Paralympic Swimming Team
Morgyn will be representing Great Britain in swimming at his first Paralympics this summer. By the time he swims his first event; Morgyn will have just celebrated his 16th birthday (20th August), and just received his GCSE results!
Morgyn trained full time at WDCS until he won a scholarship to Millfield School 4 years ago, but comes back to train with our P2 squad during the school holidays. He will make his international debut at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, having shown rapid improvement in the S9 classification.
He reached a world ranking of 13 in the 2010 season, peaking with a 1:07.50 personal best to win gold for England South at the UK School Games in Sunderland. After racing sparingly in 2011, he returned to the fold in 2012, blitzing his pbs over 100m Freestyle and his favoured 100m Backstroke. He reached the MC 100m Backstroke final at the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships and while his personal best effort for fifth in the final was 0.21 seconds short of the competitive Paralympic Selection Time, he sufficiently impressed selectors to be given his debut Paralympic nomination.
The events Morgyn will be competing in are the 100m backstroke on Friday 31st August (his best event) and 100m freestyle on Friday 7th September. He may also be taking part in the medley relay but this has yet to be confirmed.
Morgyn is in the S9 category - the S denotes that the event is freestyle, backstroke or fly, and the 9 denotes the level of physical disability.
This is a huge achievement for Morgyn, and he comments that he is very excited as well as very nervous. He is presently training in Manchester with the Paralympic swimming squad, and moves to the Olympic Village later this week to familiarise in the Aquatics Centre before the Games begin on August 29th.
Did you know?
He isn't the first in his family to be involved with disability sport - his grandad played a pivotal role in Disability Golf in Wales.
While he lives in Beaconsfield and trains at Millfield, he was born in Cardiff and became an inaugural member of the Disability Sport Wales Academy in 2006.
We would like to wish Morgyn the very best of luck from all of his friends at Wycombe District Swimming Club!

15/07/12 - New Preliminary 2012-2013 Fixtures
This has now been posted on the club calendar and is available for download on the club website HERE.
The current list will be updated and amended in August, once our new Head Coach has met with all of the coaching staff in August, but the current list provides an initial framework for the upcoming season. There will be additional Open Meet Fixtures added for the November, December and January months, but many clubs have not yet released the full details of their meets at this time.
Our new coaching team would like to assure Parents and Swimmers that there will be plenty of opportunities to attain times for Counties, Regionals and Nationals. These times will be achieved as a result of the new training program, but in November, December and January. Not September or October when swimmers will have just returned from the summer break and may well be unfit. During these months there will be a complete focus on training for all squads, in order build fitness and performance to achieve good times in the subsequent fixtures, which are being organised by the coaching staff.
Kevin Brooks (our new Head coach) would like to advise parents, that swimmers should not enter open meets that are not supported by the club. He will be introducing his training and competition rationale and philosophy during Squad and Club Meetings that will be scheduled to take place during the summer pool closure period. In these sessions both Kevin and Craig will clearly outline how they see training and competitions working together as part of an overall managed program, to ensure our swimmers achieve their maximum potential.
The current fixture list should be viewed as a draft and subject to change, as further Open Meet details are released and we get into the new swimming season.
Kind regards
WDSC Committee (on behalf of Kevin Brooks)

The were some very good individual swims coming from: Cameron Brooker, Amy Soanes, Megan Harris, Tom Lundie-Sadd, Mille Sansome, Jack Wakely, Tom Sansome, Josie Searle & Danielle Kidd. We also had strong depth in the relays.
Wycombe swimmers took 19 1st place slots (the highest number of 1st places on the night) and 12 2nd places. To finish overall in 2nd, the club are now looking forward to the 2nd round in July.
More details about the Milton Keynes Junior League and the next rounds can be found on our League Swimming Page.

04/05/12 - April Records Update
There were no new club records this month, however Millie Sansome came very close to the Girls 11 Yr 200 Backstoke SC record - 2:43.91, just outside the current record of 2:42.56
Swimmers making the All-time Top 10 include: Bethany Hirst, Cameron Brooker, Christopher Harbour, Millie Sansome, Emily Cannon, Emily Gladding, Ethan Carter, George Longhurst, Hannah Summers, Imogen Shepherd, Isabelle Baxter, James Baxter, Josie Searle, Katherine Cannon.
MOST PROLIFIC CLUB RECORD SETTERS 1984-2012, Current Swimmers
Last month I listed swimmers from the entirety of the club archives and have since been asked about more details about our current swimmers. Remember that those I included last time had, in most cases been ten years or more at the club to work their way through the age groups setting records as they went. Most of these below have only had a few years competing.

06/03/12 – WDSC Juniors in action - 2nd Place in the TVJL B Final and Hillingdon Meet Report
52 of WDSC's 8-12 year olds were in action on Saturday March 3rd at Amersham and Hillingdon.
At Amersham in the final round of the Thames Valley Junior League Wycombe Juniors produced some fine swims to take 2nd place in the B Final for 2012.

HANNAH KRASNER, HARRIET PUGH, MADDIE CLARK and NAVEESHA KARUNANAYAKA
taking 1st place with Naveesha following it up with an individual win in her 50m Backstroke in 39.95s. There were a number of other individual wins with 1st place going to:
11yr ABBY MATTHEWS in the 50m Breaststroke - 43.42s
OLIVER ROSS in the 50m Butterfly - 36.89s
12 yr KATE LEES 50m Butterfly 34.29s.
On the same evening 22 Wycombe Junior swimmers age 8-12 swam for many of them in their very 1st competition away from their home pool and excelled themselves with 84 Personal Best Times from 89 swims!

10yr NATALIE MACKAY 50 Breast
ANAIS AINSLIE 50 FLY
11yr JADE MACKAY 50 FLY and BREAST
Some of our swimmers went so much faster than their entry time they went into B Grade Times making it much harder to medal against much faster swimmers. It is a hard lesson to learn that a PERSONAL BEST TIME is more important than a medal! Angeiina Ainslie was one of those 10 yr olds who just went into B Grade and missed out on the medals her twin sister picked up! but her time 39.81 for 50m Freestyle is worthy of a mention!
Congratulations to all of our Junior Swimmers on a great performance!

14/2/12 - WDSC Junior Team brave the snow for Round 2 - Thames Valley Junior League
A brave team of 9-12 year olds travelled to Maidenhead for Rd.2 of the Thames Valley Junior League. Even before the snow, we were a very depleted team with only 2 10 yr Girls left - our gallant 9yr olds EMILY GLADDING and ANNIE WEDDELL stepped into the gap and swam all the 10 yr relays as well as their own!
Individual Best Times were recorded by 10 yr FINLAY GREEN 50 Breaststroke, Maddie Clark 50 Butterfly taking 3 seconds off from Rd.1, and Naveesha Karunanyaka & Patrick Kenny 50 Freestyle, 11yr Ayodele Evanson 50 Fly and Jonathan Jelfs 50 Backstroke, 12 yr Emma Brune 50 Back and Rebecca Hill 50 Breaststroke. Several swimmers never made it home that night and had to camp out at freinds or relatives so lets hope all the snow has gone by March 3rd for the Final Round where Wycombe will be swimming at Amersham in the B Final resting our A team Juniors for Counties and the Summer Milton Keynes National Junior League.

09/02/12 - Introducing Meet Mobile for WDSC Galas
WDSC February Open Meet trials new iPhone and iPad App for live results streaming.
With the explosion of iPhone popularity there has come an avalanche of "apps" to help people do everything they could imagine. Now a free application called Meet Mobile, designed by The Active Network, will influence how fans follow their favourite sport.
WDSC will use the app in conjunction with swimming meets, held at Handy Cross Leisure Centre, including the upcoming Level 1 Open Meet.
The app will display meet results in real time as Meet Manager (software used by those running the meet to keep track of event times) receives data from the electronic timing system in place. The results will then be streamed live as long as an Internet connection is available. The free Meet Mobile app, which can be downloaded for the iPhone, iPad, or iTouch, can display the results of each of the event swimmers.
Please note that we will be using this system for the first time this weekend!
Get your 'Meet Mobile' from the Apple App Store. Meet Mobile is a free app.

27/1/12 - A Night of Awards
Celebration and Recognition at the Annual Presentation Evening.
Wycombe District Swimming Club members gathered at the Vere Suite, Adams Park in Wycombe to celebrate the achievements of our swimmers at the annual Club Presentation evening on the 27th January 2012.
This year the room was packed, with Parents and swimmers looking forward to receiving their awards following the recent club championships in 2011. Club Chairman - Steve Vine - started the proceedings, by welcoming the swimmers and their families to what seems to be the biggest event yet, commenting that it was great to see such great active participation in the club by its members. He then handed over to Pip Collin who MC's the event, as the Club presented over 165 awards to swimmers who took part in Club Champs, followed by the Annual Top Boy and Top Girls awards. After this the proceedings moved onto the Coach's "Progress Awards" for those swimmers who had shown commitment to training and worked hard to progress during the year, there was one award for each squad.
After the awards, Steve said a few words, thanking the Coaches for another great year of swimming success as the club continues to grow and progress, with great achievements during the last year. He also thanked the committee for their hard work keeping the club running; commenting that we currently had a strong group of volunteer parents on the committee at this time. Steve finished by thanking all of the parents who had helped the club in any way during the year, at Open Meets, Galas, and much more. He also urged all of the parents to get involved and help run and shape their club for the future.
The proceedings then moved on to thanking our Assistant Coach - ALEX VINE - as he prepares to leave the club to move on to pastures new. Swimmers from the club spoke of how Alex had inspired them to swim and keep swimming, and made some fun of Alex's motivational techniques; which they clearly all enjoy. Alex was presented with a number of gifts from all of the swimmers in the club, including a Red Letter Day Voucher, a Wii and much more. It was emotional, but a fitting way to thank Alex for his dedication and time at the club - he will be missed.
The evening wrapped up with a disco and the swimmers danced and had fun into the evening.

Wycombe club swimmers have been going to Kelkheim to compete several years before the towns were were twinned in the 1980's.
This year, the swimmers once again excelled in the cold fast water of the Hofheim pool and came home with 29 individual gold, 25 silver and 13 bronze medals. There were also two golds and silvers plus a bronze in the relays. The team produced 75 personal best times from 100 individual swims.
The star of the show was 16-year-old Dan Manners who brought home a grand total of six golds and one silver medal. His amazing form earned him a county qualifying time in 200m IM, 200 and 400m freestyle and the 200m backstroke.
Other exceptional performances came from Tom Lundie-Sadd, 11, who won the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and did the same in the first three distances for backstroke. Lewis Ball, 13, won the 100m races in all four strokes and the 200m individual medley in a county qualifying time. Jasmine Boffin took gold in the 100m butterfly and silver in 200m and 100m backstroke, the latter in a county time. Jade Ashton, Kate Bromley, Jasmine Boffin and Alanah Bagwell took silver in their equivalent event. In the 4x50 freestyle relay the boys had to be content with second to Kelkheim.

• Milton Keynes Junior League 2011 - Round 2
Competition Report
After a very last minute change of venue Wycombe District Junior Swimmers headed for Windsor Leisure Pool to compete in Rd. 2 of the Milton Keynes & District Junior League.
Having won the 1st round, Wycombe knew they would face tougher opposition. It was certainly very close all the way through the evening and Wycombe were unfortunate to get 2 careless disqualifications which cost them top spot!
On the night, the biggest honours went to 10yr old JOSIE SEARLE who swam to 1st place in 50m Breaststroke in 43.52, a P.B. She was also joined by Maddie Clark, Millie Sansome and Eleanor Meadows who took 1st in their Medley Relay in a time of 1.14.98.
On the night, the biggest honours went to 10-year-old Josie Searle, who swam to first place in 50m Breaststroke in a personal best time of 43.52. She was joined by Maddie Clark, Millie Sansome and Eleanor Meadows to win their medley relay.
Other good performances came from Cameron Brooker,9, who won his butterfly race and helped the 10-year-old medley relay boys of Joshua Lancaster, Daniel Simpson and Patrick Kenny to first place.
The 11yr olds saw Danielle Kidd in good form again with P.B.'s in 50 Fly in 39.42, and 50 Free in 34.81. Zach Scanell also achieved a P.B. in the 50 Backstroke in a time of 42.43.
The 12yr olds gained maximum points from Emily Cannon, Kassidy Dawn, Lauren Jones and Rachel Cox in the Medley Relay, and also from George Longhurst in the 50 fly and Ethan Carter in the 50 Free. Unfortunately, PB's eluded them all.
The final round will be swum on Sat. Sept 10th and promises to be a very tough battle with Wycombe hoping to improve their position on previous years.
The final score at Windsor was:
1st Harrow 197
2nd Staines 'A' 193
3rd Wycombe 191
4th Maidenhead 178
5th Maxwell 'A' 155
6th Hillingdon 'B' 103

• Milton Keynes Junior League 2011 - Round 1
Round 1 Report
A team of 33 excited Junior Wycombe District Swimmers boarded the coach at Handy Cross for Barnet on Saturday, June 4th, where they took part in the first round of the Milton Keynes and District Junior League 2011. This is the first of three rounds with clubs aiming to progress to the area final and ultimately the National Final.
Wycombe swimmers proved they are up for the challenge on Saturday by beating four other teams - unfortunately Linslade Crusaders team failed to turn up!
Each of the four age groups produced some star performances for Wycombe, with the nine-year-olds setting the standard with gold for Emily Gladding, Hannah Krasner, Erin Bailey and gala debutant Jennifer Lam in their 4x25 medley relay. Not to be outdone, the boys won both their freestyle & medley relays with great swims from James Lewis, Luke Brune and Thomas Gulian, all swimming for Wycombe for the first time, alongside Tom Ross and Cameron Brooke. They stormed to victory 10 seconds faster than last year's nine-year-old medley team! Individual winners were Emily Gladding in backstroke, and Cameron Brooker in breaststroke.
The 10-year-olds continued the winning form with medley relay wins for both the girls - Maddie Clark, Josie Searle, Millie Sansome and Eleanor Meadows - and boys - Jonathan Jelfs, Cameron Brooker, Joshua Lancaster and Patrick Kenny. Individual first places were claimed by Josie Searle in breaststroke, Millie Sansome in backstroke and freestyle and Jonathan Jelfs in backstroke and freestyle.
There were no first places for the 11-year-olds but Danielle Kidd and Lilly Bogdanyi-Miller achieved personal best times in their individual races.
The 12-year-olds secured relay victories in the boy's medley - Tom Lundie-Sadd, George Longhurst, Ethan Carter and Jack Cox - and the girls freestyle team - Emily Cannon, Megan Peters, Rachel Cox and Lauren Jones. Individual wins went to Emily Cannon in butterfly, Kassidy Dawn in breaststroke, George Longhurst in both of those strokes and Ethan Carter in freestyle and backstroke.
The finale to the gala is the exciting "Squadron Relay", involving a boy and girl from each age group. A very close fought battle saw Wycombe just pipped into second place. The final leaderboard had Wycombe at the top with 236 points, followed by Harrow, Maidenhead, Hillingdon B then St Ives. Round two takes place on July 2nd and as yet we do not know the draw but it is likely to be much tougher for Wycombe!
